How do you inherit sickle cell?
It is inherited through genes from our parents just like characteristics for eye, hair or skin colour. A person inherits two genes, one from each parent for every characteristic. You inherit your haemoglobin type from both parents. Men and women can pass it on equally.
A haemoglobin S carrier has inherited one gene for haemoglobin A from one parent and one gene for haemoglobin S from the other parent. This is not an illness.
