On Wednesday 16th August 2023, children of all ages, along with some parents, came together for a special sports day organised by the Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Support Project. This event was all about having fun, making new friends and learning to use sports as a way to improve wellbeing.
Sports Coach Felix did a great job at facilitating all activities on the day. He got everyone involved with a variety of activities such as dodgeball, football and archery which was enjoyed by all. The little ones had their own fun with pirate games, letting their imaginations run wild.
As the workshop came to an end, there was a special moment for all the young participants. Each one received a medal as a reward for taking part and a thank you for their enthusiasm and teamwork.
We received great feedback from this event, all those who got involved had great fun and have requested more sports events in the future.
We asked a few young people and parents what they enjoyed most about Sports Day:
"She enjoyed meeting with new friends, participating in the game, and even interacting with the adults"- Parent of an affected child (Walsall)
"l enjoy playing different sports and make new friends there"- Affected young person (Wolverhampton)
"The coordinates, the time and also the medal, it was awesome. My kids were happy for participating and also meeting new friends"- Parent of an affected child (Wolverhampton)
Thank you to those who supported us with Sports Day. None of this would have been possible without support from Sports Coach Felix, Sporting Khalsa in Willenhall and The National Lottery Community Fund.
